A Brief Note about Lizards…

I don’t often branch away from sports, but I will briefly.  The next time you’re inundated with information and start to wonder if there’s anything new in the world, think about this…

In the summer of 2010, scientists first described a new species of monitor lizard found on Luzon Island in the Philippines, which, itself, isn’t really newsworthy.  What I find meaningful is that this lizard is over 6 feet long and is characterized by big yellow spots that cover its body.  On an island roughly the size of Kentucky with a population of 47,000,000 people, no one ever noticed a giant yellow lizard????

And, now that our ability to explore more and more of the land and sea of our little planet is growing exponentially, imagine what wonders will come forth in 2011.  Stay tuned…
